My fellow monks, it is with great pleasure that I announce that Warner Brothers has OFFICIALLY RELEASED THE ENTIRE FIRST SEASON OF XIAOLIN SHOWDOWN ON ITUNES IN GLORIOUS, GLORIOUS, WIDESCREEN HIGH DEFINITION! REJOICE!!!!!
But wait, Nacho! you say. Why is this such a big deal? I don’t get it! Why should we bother buying the episodes off iTunes when we already have access to every episode through Youtube for free?
Well, my friends, I will tell you!
It is a big deal because Warner Brothers has not made ANY Xiaolin Showdown episodes available on iTunes before now! This is the first time that Xiaolin Showdown has been available for purchase since the first season was released on DVD in 2006, which is nearly 7 YEARS AGO now! The fact that they are making these episodes available so near to the premiere of Xiaolin Chronicles, and the fact that only the first season is currently available, tells me one thing: they are testing the waters.
They want to see if there is still a market for this show - which, of course, there is! WE are the market! Our friends, families, neighbors, nephews, nieces, little brothers and sisters - THEY are the market! And if we show our interest, by purchasing these episodes, there’s a good chance that whatever WB is testing the waters for will happen faster. It could be something as simple as the other two seasons being released on iTunes, or as big as Xiaolin Chronicles being released in America a lot sooner.
As for the episodes themselves, they are FAR more than worth the money. 20 dollars nets you the entire season in HD, and it is so. SO. Worth the price. I watched the first episode in HD and was left speechless and slackjawed; the show is so incredibly GORGEOUS this way! The colors are brighter and bolder, the lines (and animation!) are crisp and clear, and there are so many tiny details lost in the grainy quality of the episodes on youtube, like the faces of the people in San Francisco and the charts on the walls of Jack Spicer’s lair. The widescreen format adds a lot to the show too; again, more detail! It feels more cinegraphic this way, and definitely more suited to a larger screen. And since it’s on iTunes, you can watch it on your TV! Your phone! Your iPad! Your computer! WHATEVER! You can take XS wherever you go and show it to everyone you meet and convert all your friends into fans! YEAH!
I am working on getting some screenshots of the HD episodes and will post them on tumblr once I have them to show just how gorgeous this show truly is in HD. I swear, it’s like watching it for the first time all over again. Best 20 bucks I ever spent.
I should mention that it’s currently only available in America, so if you do not have an American iTunes account you may be out of luck. :C But to everyone who can, I encourage you to buy! Give your money to this show! Show Warner Brothers, Cartoon Network, iTunes, and whoever else might be watching that there is money in Xiaolin Showdown and that people will buy it if given the chance! This is the first chance we’ve had in nearly 7 years, and we need to take full advantage of it.
GONG YI TAMPAI!
